[ARCHIVED] Leesville Secures $500,000 for Brownfield Cleanup

Patti Larney and Grant Bush recieve Brownfield award

Representatives for the City of Leesville proudly attended the 2025 Louisiana Brownfield Awards Ceremony, hosted on November 18, 2025 by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s LITE Center.

At the event, Leesville received a grant for $500,000 to support the cleanup and revitalization of brownfield sites within the city. City Administrator Patti Larney and City Planner Grant Bush were on hand to accept the award, underscoring Leesville’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community renewal.

The ceremony highlighted the work of the LDEQ Brownfields Program, which helps communities across Louisiana transform vacant, underutilized, or contaminated properties into safe, productive spaces. By providing technical assistance and connecting local governments with federal resources, the program ensures that redevelopment projects not only protect public health and the environment but also spark economic growth.

This funding marks a significant step toward turning Leesville’s brownfields into opportunities for new development, community pride, and long-term sustainability.

What Are Brownfields?  Brownfields are properties where past use — such as industrial or commercial activity — may have left behind environmental contamination. Through the LDEQ Brownfields Program, communities receive support to assess, clean up, and safely redevelop these sites. The goal is to turn vacant or underutilized properties into productive spaces that protect public health, spark economic growth, and restore community pride.
