Competitive Examination Announcement: Police Chief

The Leesville Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board announces a Competitive Examination for the Class of Police Chief.

A written examination will be administered in approximately ninety (90) days to approved applicants. This exam is conducted in accordance with the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law and the rules of the Leesville Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board.

Application Deadline:  Completed applications and required attachments must be received by 4:00 PM on October 15, 2025.

Note: Applications must be submitted directly to the Board Secretary. Do not drop off applications at the Leesville Police Department or City Hall.

How to Apply:  Application forms are available:

Approved applicants will be notified of the exact date, time, and location of the examination at least five (5) days prior to the test.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet all requirements of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law, including U.S. citizenship, legal age, and possession of a valid driver’s license. A physical examination will be required after an offer of employment.

Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience pathways:

Option 1:

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, police administration, business/public administration, or related field
  • At least 6 years of law enforcement experience (non-military), with 2 years in supervisory or administrative roles

Option 2:

  • Associate degree in criminal justice or related field, or bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field
  • At least 8 years of law enforcement experience (non-military), with 2 years in supervisory or administrative roles

Option 3:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (including BESE-approved home study documentation for Louisiana applicants)
  • At least 10 years of law enforcement experience (non-military), with 2 years in supervisory or administrative roles

Experience should include patrol operations, criminal investigations, police training, and related areas of department management.

Posting Period:  This notice will remain posted from October 3 through October 15, 2025 at Leesville City Hall and the Leesville Police Department.
