We’re excited to welcome Sidney Russell to the Planning and Zoning Commission. A retired U.S. Army veteran with 23 years of service, Sidney brings a wealth of leadership experience and community dedication. After his military career, he served six years as a deputy with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office and is now the proud owner of
Ground Zero Boxing in Leesville’s Historic District. Sidney is OSHA Safety certified, an active member of the Leesville Lions Club, and currently pursuing his third master’s degree—adding to an impressive academic background that includes degrees in Kinesiology, Business Administration, and Business Administration with a focus in Finance and Engineering Management.
Sidney is passionate about community unity and fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. “We need diversity because the stigma around Vernon Parish is that it is bland—and it makes it seem like it’s a hate community, and it’s not. I think there is a misunderstanding around the community, and I am trying to bring the cultures and community together in a positive way,” he shares.
His dedication to progress, inclusion, and thoughtful planning will be a valuable asset to the Commission and to Leesville’s future. Welcome, Sidney!
